I received a distressing piece of news Sept. 15: Showcase, one of Canada’s specialty networks, opted not to renew the television series Almost Heroes for a second season. This, considering it was one of my favourite shows within the last year, quickly prompted me to tweet my displeasure like any other self-respecting new media junkie and classify it as a blunder on par with Fox cancelling any show that was ever worthwhile. Please see Firefly, Dollhouse and Arrested Development for further reference. At this point I imagine, though, that you’re questioning what it is I’m blabbering about.
This past weekend I toured a couple of comic shops. One was my local favourite (Blue Beetle), the other was a comic shop in downtown T.O. I thought I would just check things out. See what was in stock. Get…

I kind of sat on this one for a little bit; surprisingly no one really wrote much about it. Rob Liefeld was prompted on twitter to explain the status of his Kirkman penned Killraven series which lead to a back…

An interesting video from the CBC archives about Memory Lane Books, opened May 1967 in Toronto by George Henderson. This predates Harry Kremer’s Now & Then Books by four years. A really great interview. Henderson felt comfortable opening a comic…
Last night I got a chance to check out Morgan Spurlock’s (Supersize Me) new documentary Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope at the Toronto International Film Festival. The doc was filmed at the 2010 San Diego International Comic Con and…
This week we're also taking a look at another of the new DC 52 number ones, this time the Emerald Archer himself, Green Arrow. Coming off a tumultuous year in the life of Oliver Queen, the series has been rebooted, taking Oliver Queen back to a location he's not been in some time. Intrigued? Then read forth.
The news this week has all been about DC’s relaunch and books selling over 200,000 copies. It all started with this announcement on the DC Comics Source blog: [quote]Earlier today, Diamond Comic Distributors, the world’s largest distributor of comics, graphic…
Last week the second wave of DC's New 52 hit shelves, among them the first issue of the relaunched Action Comics penned by star writer Grant Morrison. This week we're taking a look at the first issue of DC's most renowned series.
This summer’s blockbuster hit Thor comes to Blu-Ray and DVD Sept 13/11 (also available on 3D combo pack). The Blu-Ray comes with 80 minutes worth of extras, but more importantly it comes with 20 minutes of deleted scenes that include…
With Schism winding down, ironically with the end of mutantkind's unity in tow, Marvel has been slowly revealing the members of the 21st century versions of the X-Men blue and gold teams.
By time you read this Justice League #1 has been on the shelf for a week, and shipping this week were the #1s for Action Comics, Batgirl, Batwing, Green Arrow, JLI and Swamp Thing (to name a few). Before I was…

On August 24th Comic Book Daily’s intrepid London reporter Daniel Champion attended the opening night of Batman Live stage show at the O2 arena in London. His comicbookdaily press pass in hand Dan experienced the extravaganza up close and personal.…
This is billed as a humour story for children eight and up. The story is very straightforward with that Powell sensibility: a bearded girl finds a monster and takes it back with her to the circus. She encounters a witch that later makes a deal with a pharmaceutical company; in the process she's kidnapped and eventually is freed by her monster.
“But, aren’t all comic shops for kids?” That is the common response I get when I tell people about Little Island Comics, the new comic store for kids that has opened up in Toronto. Steps away from Honest Ed’s the…
Okay, Fan Expo has me kind of tapping out this week. Between that and some pending interview requests, this week’s column is a good chunk of reviews, starting with something a little different. Kirby Krackle – Super Powered Love mini-review…
It’s been busy in the shop today, really busy. I have never seen so many people buy “one of each”. There were 13 new DC #1s today (the 1st wave of this month’s 52 new titles basically re-launching the whole…
