Firstly, and I believe that many out there would attest to this, just because you are married doesn’t mean your personal life is all sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows. In fact, one might even say that having characters going through marital troubles would make their personal lives even more difficult.

There are very few praises I will sing for Mark Waid, and while this may sound as though I’m preparing to lambaste the current Daredevil scribe once again, I’m not. To his credit he has been a driving force behind the comic book industry's evolution as it steps towards its digital age, understanding what it is we're on the precipice of and making an effort to embrace it. A second point I give him credit for is the crux of this post he made in 2009 on the very necessity of the comic book editor.

Let me then try to point to a few times in the WECA books that specifically locate the action on Canadian soil or at least, in some way, make it clear that the story is taking place in Canada or, finally, directly connect the story to Canada.

Twins Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon return to the Mignolaverse to carry Simon Anders' story into its next phase.

Superboy #68, DC Comics, Oct/Nov 1958 Superman turned 75 back in June and it got me thinking a bit about old Sups and his current situation. Here’s the hero of heroes, the grand daddy of them all and yet we…

I wish I had something new and exciting to report but the first six months of this year was just a continuation of what we saw in 2012: a weak Bronze Age, a steady Silver Age, and a stellar Modern Age.…

The brief seventies awakening to and appreciation of the Canadian war-time comic industry began with Michael Hirsh and Patrick Loubert’s November, 1971 publication of the compendium of Bell Features material they called The Great Canadian Comic Books (Peter Martin).

Well, Fan Expo has come and gone and I did it, I cosplayed for the first time. My costume came out pretty well if you ask me. Mostly because it was made by Super Suckers. I gathered and created all the accessories. CDB’s own Ed Campbell lent me the bow, which I think made the outfit!

With this second act completed, the best is yet to come from Del Col, McCreery and Belanger. Their story continues to evolve and ripen, improving with each new issue. A hallmark of the series has been the creators' willingness to take chances with their work, a philosophy that has paid dividends for them and has resulted in an overwhelmingly fantastic comic that only gets better as it develops. Belanger has been an integral piece of the entire journey, giving Del Col and McCreery's words visual weight, combining together to tell a complete story that continues to be the prologue to greater things.

Punisher Limited Series #1, Marvel Comics (January 1986). A sure fire way to tell if a comic book is hot these days is to head to a comic con and see if you can find the book on dealer’s walls.…

A week has gone by since Fan Expo. I’ve had time to relax (sort of) and decompress from 4 full days of Fan Expo fun. This being my third Fan Expo in a row, I can sit back and compare…

As a journalist, I do everything I can to promote comic writing and art to the public, particularly for youngsters. Heck, if it weren’t for comics, I seriously doubt I would have ever learned to read. Comics today can be a spark younger people may need to lead them to a lifetime of wonder and imagination in both words and art.

Last Friday night the RAID Studio threw an unofficial bash as part of Fan Expo, Canada’s premiere pop culture event. Held at The Soho House on the corner of Adelaide and Simcoe, party-goers got a chance to enjoy cocktails and chat with artists, writers, and editors about their work, Fan Expo, and why Toronto is the place to be at the end of August.

Each year at Fan Expo I try to spend at least part of my time working retail. For lack of a better term I “started in the industry” in comic book retail and I always like returning to my roots.…
