So, I was looking through one of my bookcases full of graphic novels, artists profiles, Jack Kirby Collectors et cetera, for something to peruse and ran my fingers across the TPB of Daredevil Born Again. My finger stopped. My mind flashed back to the fabulous Frank Miller story and great David Mazzucchelli artwork!
I had found my subject of perusal. But I didn’t peruse. I was sucked heart and soul into the heart wrenching story of totally dismantling and blowing up Matt Murdock/Daredevil’s world.
One of the things about collecting comics for as long as I have, is returning to the best storylines over and over again, only to rediscover how good sequential art storytelling can be. This is one of those stories. If Frank Miller never wrote another story, if David Mazzucchelli never drew another story, this will always be a classic and will be remembered and reintroduced to new generations of comic fans to be enjoyed.
Frank Miller does what he always seems to do. He takes the many years of history, and characters and makes them his own. Karen Page, Foggy Nelson, Kingpin, Gladiator, Ben Urich, Captain America even, all imprinted with that Frank Miller unique magic.
The raw emotion and pacing in this book is masterful! You feel the anguish of Kane Page giving up her basic humanity, Ben Urich’s fear, Kingpin’s rage, Matt Murdock’s absolute desolation and…the love of a mother. All weaved into a seamless adventure of epic proportions!
Now I am not going into the story for those who haven’t read this yet, so do yourself a favour and pick this up!
You can get it in its original form ,Daredevil #227 to 233. You can get it in a couple different trade paperbacks, or if you really want a treat get the IDW Artist’s Edition. It is worth every penny and is in my opinion the absolute best way to appreciate the stunning powerhouse nuance of David Mazzucchelli.
Continued Happy Collecting!
P.S.Season Three of Daredevil on Netflix is called Born Again!

This story absolutely floored me when it came out, it is my favorite comic arc.
I agree Walt. After reading some of Mazzuchelli’s comments regarding his work with Miler on this story line, it is apparent that it was a true collaboration between the two creators and the story as a result definitely benefitted from that interaction.
A classic for sure. Can’t wait for Daredevil Season 3 as part of it will based on this great story line.
Let’s hope they stick close to the script. It will be interesting to see how they handle the Nuke?Captain America sub plot.
