Snow Day

To quote the late great Mr. Dangerfield – “I tell ya I’m alright now but last week I was in rough shape”. What the heck was that last week? The pic below is me driving home! I’m hoping the weather will turn soon and I’m hoping that’s the last snow I see until January 2026!!

It was hard to miss my Cover of the Week, it was a new add on to the “going to eBay auction” pile and lets all admit, it’s a great cover with its John Romita inks over the Gil Kane pencils. I love putting raw, ungraded big books like this up on auction, and so do the bidders, this thing will do well.

My Ad of the Week is a DC inhouse ad from 1968 out of the pages of Green Lantern #61. Here is the question, who is this new western hero? Is it Johah Hex? Too early. I can’t figure out who this character is. Anybody?

Our Splash Page of the Week comes off the pencil of the mighty Jack Kirby, its from Fantastic Four #9 and its the very early days of Marvel starting to lay out their Universe and filling us in on their characters. This is from December 1962, so early that the likes of Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Daredevil and the X-Men didn’t even exist yet.

On Sunday night another of our weekly icecollectibles eBay auctions ended with a bang, our raw copy of Giant Size X-Men #1 finished at $3,100 USD. I took an interest to see how this lot of Mighty Mouse comics from the 1950s would do, they were in solid mid grade and were a fun lot of funny animal mayhem. The lot closed at $85.67 USD, a respectable result for a low demand character in a low demand genre, still I think they went for a bargain.
