Hamilton got hammered this weekend with something like 30 to 40 cm of snow and that’s on top of the big snow storm we got mid last week, to top it all off the weather doesn’t look like it will crack above freezing for the next two weeks which means these huge piles of snow will be with us for a while. Me and the neighbors shoveled our driveways together, the job took us an hour and a half, two hours if you count the chit chatting and cognac drinking after we finished. I did try to leave the house to head to work but the side roads were not plowed yet so I decided I’d have a snow day and hang out at home. Unfortunately I was going to take my “going to eBay auction” pics at work but I’m sure you’ll forgive me for hunkering down and allowing to snow crews some room on the roads, all they need is another clown in the ditch. Its been at least a decade since we got hit like this and I liked it, it felt good getting that nasty Canadian Winter thing come through, made me feel very hyperborean. Of course it sucked for business, we closed Big B Comics yesterday, apologies to the few four wheel drive diehards that most likely tried to go and do some shopping. Lets hope those road crews load up on the coffee, there’s lots of work to be done.
I really am the king of segues, as we also have lots of work to be done sorting those comics at the warehouse, for this post I wanted to take a pic of the processing area we’ve set up, but alas, the snow. The good news is that our landlord has caved and now allowed us to have the space until the end of March, I’d initially told him we’d be out by the end of February but I say things all the time, I would have had to start moving things out of there this weekend if he didn’t extend, and the snow…
Chris and I are upping our YouTube video postings to twice a week for a bit, we’re trying to front end load the content in hopes of getting more followers, we’re almost at 100 followers, which is our first hurdle – hey, be the 100th followers on our YouTube channel and I’ll buy you a donut if we ever meet! We put up the Top 10 Mike Ploog video today.
There isn’t much news to report on the tariffs front, I’m still not sure how our small packages of collectible comics heading into the USA will be affected, for now we’re full speed ahead and we’re ready, willing and able to make the adjustments, should we need to in the near future.
I’ve noticed a lot of big Marvel Keys going up on auction, I think Heritage has 5 X-Men #1s, 4 Daredevil #1s, 4 Hulk #1s, 4 Amazing Fantasy #15s going up on their next big auction. A few guys have mentioned this to me as well, with one claiming the sky is falling! I’ll wait and see what they get, redistributing ownership at current market prices is a healthy thing, means new blood in the game, if the prices all tank I’ll reconsider my position. I’m not sure how the current flux in potential USA trade barriers will affect the market. Will Canadian buyers stay away? Will European buyers stay away? The can be some potential deals if we conclude that all these stresses are a temporary thing.
I’m going there, – our weekly icecollectibles eBay auction is definitely not a temporary thing, it chugs along every week, snow or shine. Tonight we saw pent up demand in action, we had a beautiful copy of Avengers #96 CGC 9.6 Signature Series with Neal Adams and Stan Lee signing, the last sale was way back in 2014, over a decade ago and it sold then for $261, our copy last night got $865.55 USD, a nice healthy result.

Hey Walt….beautiful snow pic. Unbelievable winter thus far. I heard that Toronto and Hamilton last saw this much snow was in 1999. Patrizha has had about 12 snow days so far this year, unprecedented since the 1970’s.
Hope you and yours are well chum. Nice Ploog video. Hello to Chris !
The entire treatment of Canada (and Greenland and Gaza and Panama) by Trump is disgraceful – a president threatening the sovereignty of countries. It has not just put a bad taste in my mouth regarding your neighbors but slightly soured my enjoyment of the books, every Kirby book seems tinged with frustration ‘yes, Nazi’s are bad and get a big smack in the mouth’ and ‘yes, felons belong behind bars, not the desk in the oval office’ – it’s like the teachings of our books have been forgotten. Ya see, you gotta get the kids reading comics for their moral development!
I noted to Mark and Mel that what I really need is a Canadian selling forum! I’ve worked out how to use ebay.ca and filter to Canada only….but a nice bunch of Canucks buying and selling would be ideal.
Sorry to get political, but it’s definitely impacting my buying and reading at the moment.
How’s everyone else feeling?
and sorry to hear about your snow, that’s a real bummer…Walt I message you some photos on Saturday from a nice bike ride, but it’ll be early in the day though because it is going to be 35!!! (that’s 102 degrees in fascistheit).
Rohan
I didn’t get the pics !!! Just the sight of someone I know enjoying plus 30 degree weather will be good enough for me at this point… anything!!
I’ve always liked the laissez faire approach to economics, less government intervention, less regulation, less trade barriers, etc. I think the Yanks would be making a mistake limiting the free trade of goods, everyone will lose. I’m not sure what the difference between an optimist and a fool is, but I’m hopeful things won’t get to there.
Dave! I’m seeing you guys up north are getting it way worse than us, and here I am bitching at a bit of snow! Stay warm up there pal.
Dave! Hope you are doing well! Glad you like the videos. Maybe we will have to do a Richie Rich show and have you on as a guest specialist. We’ll get at least…. 2 views!
Rohan! Nothing to be sorry about the snow. We haven’t had this in a long time and it feels right to have a “good ol’ Canadian winter” again.
