Two More Times Sleep

Merry Christmas to those celebrating on the 25th, and Happy Holidays to all. I hope Santa is good to everyone, and I hope we’re all good to each other.

My Santa came by the warehouse early this year. Jolly old Mike Huddleston popped by with a hot black coffee and some delicious donuts a few days ago, he also found me our Cover of the Week, an ever elusive high grade raw copy of Fear #5. For those of you that don’t know, Fear #5 is one of the harder Marvel’s from November 1971 to get in high grade. The deep black cover amplifies any small imperfections. I think I’m farther along in my quest to collect all these giant 25 cent 11/71 issues than I realize, I hope to take long look at what I have as things get a bit slower over the winter, I’ll definitely want to show off and share some pics. This beauty won’t be going up onto our weekly icecollectibles eBay auction because its going right into the PC!

I love these old ads. My ad of the week comes from Blue Bolt Comics #103 and it promises to make you lose weight fast, all you have to do is eat delicious candy. How delicious is the candy? Well, if it doesn’t taste as good as your current favorite cady then they promise you your money back. How fast will you lose weight? Well, how fast can you get your money to them? Let’s go, beach weather is just around the corner. To their defense I think getting ripped off like this might make you so mad you’d lose your appetite…

Our Splash Page of the Week comes from that huge Jim Steranko History of Comics Volume 1. Here he shows off a classic Jack Kirby Captain America splash. This rough Splash show just how ferocious Kirby really was, beyond good.

Another great icecollectibles weekly eBay auction ended last night, I thought there was an error when I saw how high our Conan Annual #4 sold for. Our copy fetched $129.50 USD, and no people weren’t crazy, they were bidding hoping to win the Double Cover copy of Conan Annual #4. Double Covers have always been a thing, even way back in the 80s when I started selling comics I notice that demand for double covers was strong. We’re always looking for scarcity, the comic may be common but a Price Variant, a Newsstand, a super high grade copy, a double cover, etc etc. We’re junkies for some kind of scarcity.

  1. That Fear #5 is fantastic. I think that’s the best copy I have ever seen.
I’m not surprised about the Conan Annual. People are finding more niche buying habits to participate in and double covers isn’t new but gaining in popularity.
