Influencers

I had fun following the Olympics, they shine a light on so many cool sports that seem to matter all of a sudden, but then, unfortunately, all but disappear until the next Olympics. The ping pong highlights were insane as were some of those close distance races. I was watching some track event and I saw in the background one of the athletes filming themselves on their phone. I realized a lot of these kids have videos to upload, they are influencers, they have followers. Here’s a question, what’s better for attracting more followers, winning a gold or knocking the high jump pole off with your member?

Speaking of Influencers, it was easy to spot our cover of the week in the “heading to eBay auction” pile, Millie the Model #136 has the girls hitting the slopes in style. This great cover is from April 1966, I’ve included below the cover from Sgt Fury #32, from July 1966, like I said, influencers, trend setters, rock stars!!

Check out our Splash Page of the week, it comes from Avengers #71 and its drawn by Sal Buscema. I prefer Sal’s brother John but that doesn’t mean Sal can’t produce. This late 60s Marvel style was the style for me, I guess this style was my intro to comics and it stuck with me, guys like Perez and Byrne came in and changed the game in the late 70s but for me this is the way to draw superhero comics.

Our old pal Ron popped in for a visit last week, as always he brought some stunning books for us to drool over and as always he was unwilling to negotiate on any of them, personally I think he gets pleasure seeing me grovel. His CGC 6.5 copy of Claire Voyant #3 is a real knock out…

Our weekly icecollectibles eBay auction wrapped up another session last night, I was really interested to see how our Classic Comics #1 would do. This is such a rare bird, we’re all so used to seeing these things in their later printings, and going for hardly anything, it almost dumbs down the original copies. We had an original copy up and ut closed at $1,009, it beat the last 4.5 sale of $905 back in April 2023. Nice to see some well earned gains.
