Lets all stay calm, there’s plenty of time left to make this thing happen without anybody pulling a muscle or getting their feelings hurt. That small room I was loading up is almost plugged, I’ve crammed in 16 towers, around 370 bins, and have room for two more towers against that back wall coming forward, I won’t be able to get the third tower down because of the door. I was thinking about keeping the door open but ultimately decided the “whoa” factor of opening the door to show guys what’s in the room trumps any extra piddly couple of dozen boxes I might be able to get into there. We have 18 days left to vacate the big two warehouse room and as of this moments things look doable, its my intent to give you an even rosier report next week.
Speaking of next week, our Features Canadiana eBay Auction launches Sunday October 20th and it ends Sunday October 27th. The folks at eBay like to run their featured auctions for 7 days and seeing as we love how much they help us promoting this auction we’ll run with their seven day plan, so again, I’ll ask you to stay calm this coming Thursday, you’ll see our regular weekly auction not load as it usually does Thursday’s, the Canadiana Auction will load Sunday.
I love seeing covers I’ve never seen before and our Canaidana Auctions let me enjoy this sensation multiple times over. Check out Congo Comics #27, printed in Canada circa 1946. Now 1946 was the last year the WECA era (Canadian Whites) publishers were putting out comics but I’m pretty sure this does not qualify as a WECA era book? I’m pretty sure it isn’t an FECA era book (Canadian Editions) of the late 1940s and early 1950s. Perhaps our guru of this age, Ivan Kocmarek, can shed some light.
Sticking with our Canadiana Auction theme, our ad of the week comes from the inside back cover of Dime Comics #18. Bell Features had quite the line up of titles back in the day, I’d love to see some sales stats and know which titles sold the most. I do know that of all these titles listed its Triumph Comics that has held the most weight and the most value in the collecting community, I’m pretty sure Nelvana of the Northern Lights has a lot to do with that.
Our Splash Page of the week continues to stay with the Canadiana theme and features in my view one of the greatest splash page artists ever, the mighty Bob Fujitani. The splash comes from the Canadian Super Comics Vol 2 #1 featuring that fun Archie head as a football cover. This splash page originally appeared in a Hangman story from Pep Comics #44. I fell in love with Fujitani’s work after seeing many of his splash pages during my Making a Splash posts from 2020.
Raw lots were hot during on the latest icecollectibles weekly eBay auction that closed last night. There were many strong Marvel lots littered through the auction but the one I liked the best was the Justice League #161 to 174 lot. Those early 80s JLAs are finally starting to get the love they deserve, out lot closed at $146.50
USD.
Eerie #1 is not Pep #34, but that Fujitani is my ticket to hanging with the big boys.
Walt the Congo comic is a FECA comic (a Canadian reprint book) and it is from 1948, the only year that its publisher Pioneer Publications in London, Ontario operated. This is one of about 14 comics that were published by Pioneer during that year.
Thanks for the correction Ivan, now that would be a challenge of a collecting strain – hey man I’m trying to finish my Spidey run, I only have 22 issues to go, how about you – me, I’m closing in on my Pioneer Publishing out of London collection, I’m close, I only have 13 issues to go… –
Eerie is still a tough book Meli, nice work
