Do Christmas covers on comic books equal easy sales this time of year?
Dell Giant #40, Dell Publishing (12/60) Graded by CGC at 9.4 with Cream to Off White pages sold for $51.55 on eBay on December 12th. The 40th edition Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 9.2 is $125.00. Wow, this book realized well below half the 9.2 price for a 9.4 grade. These Dell Giants are usually hard to find in the higher grades and although the page quality isn’t the best this does look like a great deal for the buyer. Advantage buyer.
Amazing Spider-Man #166, Marvel Comics (3/77) Graded by CGC at 9.8 with White pages sold for $152.50 on eBay on December 7th. The 40th edition Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 9.2 is $28.00. Another wow! This sale works out to about five and a half times the 9.2 guide for a 30 cent cover Amazing Spider-man. Seems a little steep but it is Spidey and it is a 9.8 and it is White Pages and it is Christmas… Advantage seller.
Walt Disney’s Christmas Parade #1, Dell Publishing (11/49) Graded by CGC at 4.5 with Off White pages did not sell on eBay for the asking price of $104.99, the auction ended December 15th. The 40th edition Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 4.5 is $141.75. The seller was asking for about 70% of guide and did not get it. Perhaps he should have linked to my Undervalued Spotlight #67. Needless to say there should have been buyers for this comic book.
Hulk #9, Marvel Comics (2/09) Graded by CGC at 9.8 with White pages did not sell for the asking price of $19.99 on eBay, the auction ended on December 8th. This was the Christmas Variant cover. Variants usually sell for at least $9.99 and this one is graded a 9.8 which would make the price of $19.99 seem like a bargain. Not even a Hulk Santa could entice a bid out anyone.
It seems only the Spidey did well this year. In fact out of the 16 completed items that has a Christmas theme, only 2 actually sold. Bah, Humbug indeed.
