This is the first time that CBD has taken a look at results from Pedigree Auctions. Pedigree had a very successful Grand Auction that ended April 29th. Lets have a look at some highlights.

Justice League of America #1, DC Comics (10-11/60) Graded by CGC at 9.4 with Off White pages sold for $40,000.00. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 9.2 is $10,000.00. This is one tough book to get in high grade. Only 3 CGC 9.4s exist, along with one CGC 9.6. As far as I know this is a record price for a JLA #1 in 9.4. High grade Silver Age DC is all the rage these days and yet I’m not sold on the long term staying power of this book (vs. say the Brave and Bold #28). I’m going to have to go and say advantage seller.

Fantastic Four #1, Marvel Comics (11/61) Graded by CGC at 9.4 with White pages sold for $210,000.00. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 9.2 is $52,000.00. I really like Fantastic Four #1 as an investment book. To me it’s the biggest Silver Age key and it’s the book most responsible for getting us to where we are today (next to Action Comics #1 of course). Fantastic Four #1 is very scarce in the higher grades, only 4 copies have graded 9.4 and only 1 copy has graded wht must be a very pretty 9.6. This is a great book to have. Advantage buyer.

Green Lantern #12, DC Comics (4/62) Graded by CGC at 9.6 with Off White pages sold for $2,550.00. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 9.2 is $365.00. This is the lone CGC 9.6 on the census and it realized roughly 7 times guide value. GL #12 is considered a run book; the price was run up solely due to scarcity of grade. I don’t know about you but I think there are still a lot of really sharp GL comics from 10 up that have not been graded, most of these people have not even considered grading these later copies yet. Advantage seller.

Batman #157, DC Comics (9/72) Graded by CGC at 9.8 with White pages (Pacific Coast Pedigree collection) sold for $6,100.00. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 9.2 is $250.00. I’m not even going to look at the CGC census because I’m quite sure that this is the sole highest graded copy that exists. Batman is one of the most collected titles in the hobby and boy is it ever nice when you can have bragging rights on owning the best copies. It’s hard to call this since it becomes so not about the comic and so all about the 9.8. Advantage seller because almost 25 times guide is too much to pay for bragging rights, isn’t it?

Amazing Spider-Man #14, Marvel Comics (7/64) Graded by CGC at 9.6 with White pages sold for $44,042.00. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 9.2 is $4200.00. This is one of 13 copies that share the 9.6 grade and the honor of being called the highest graded copies. The white pages puts it right at the front of the line. I’m a true believer in the Amazing Spider-Man title, I think it is the one of the top 3 most collected titles and I like the longevity of the Green Goblin but I think over 10 times guide is still a bit ambitious. Advantage seller.
