Auction Highlights #31 – Spidey Cross-Overs

Early Spidey cross-overs have always been in demand books. There’s been a few up for sale lately. Let’s see how they did.

Avengers #11, Marvel Comics, (12/64), graded by CGC at 8.0 with Off White to White pages sold for $251.00 on eBay on March 21st. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 8.0 is $239.00. This comic sold for 105% of guide. Avengers #11 has always one of the more popular early Spider-Man cross-overs. Avengers is collectible on its own, throw in Spidey and you have gold! A solid price, edge goes to buyer because of solid page quality.

Fantastic Four Annual #1, Marvel Comics, (1963), graded by CGC at 7.0 with Cream to Off White pages sold on eBay for $390.00 on March 26th. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 7.0 is $408.50. This comic sold for 95.5% of guide. Late 1963 makes this a very early Spidey appearance. The poor page quality makes this an even buy and sell.

Strange Tales Annual #2, Marvel Comics, (7/63), graded by CGC at 2.0 with Cream to Off White pages sold for $41.00 on eBay on March 22nd. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 2.0 is $71.00. This is the grand daddy of all Spidey cross-overs because it’s the first one and it also represents only the 4th appearance of Spider-Man (came out before Spider-Man #3). This comic sold for 57.7% of guide. I know its low grade and I know its poor page quality but I also know the buyer got a bargain.

Uncanny X-Men #35, Marvel Comics, (8/67), graded by CGC at 6.5 with Off White to White pages sold for $69.99 on eBay on March 20th. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 6.5 is $94.25. This comic sold for over 74.3% of guide. Though a later cross-over, this comic has always been super collectible partly because its in the super collectible X-Men run and partly because it has such a great cover. Advantage to the buyer.

Tales to Astonish #57, Marvel Comics, (7/64), graded by CGC at 7.0 with Cream to Off White pages failed to sell on eBay on March 30th. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 7.0 is $166.00. The book was listed at $150 (a 10% discount on guide) with no takers. Sounds like a reasonable price but I think the page quality kept a few on the fence.

All over the map here! Overall though I though Spidey held pretty tough.
