Auction Highlights #27 – Very Good

Let’s see how the market is treating some nice but lower grade comic books

Very Good

Let’s see how the market is treating some nice but lower grade comic books.

All American Comics #19, DC Comics, (10/40), graded by CGC at 4.0 with Cream to Off White pages sold for $1,725.00 on eBay on March 7th. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 4.0 is $3,500.00. This comic sold for 49.3% of guide which is a shame because it’s a solid copy of a very early Green Lantern (4th appearance) and it’s the 1st appearance of The Atom! A good purchase.

Fantastic Four Annual #1, Marvel Comics, (1963), graded by CGC at 4.0 with Cream to Off White pages sold on eBay for $79.50 on March 7th. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 4.0 is $142.00. This comic sold for 56% of guide. It is a great comic but most of the copies traded are lower grade like this one and this fact pushes the price down a bit. A good purchase.

Avengers #4, Marvel Comics, (8/70), graded by PGX at 4.0 with Cream pages sold for $325.00 on eBay on March 7th. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 4.0 is $262.00. Avengers #4 is a hot book but PGX is not a hot grading company. I think the seller did well to sell above guide. A good sell.

Tales of Suspense #40, Marvel Comics, (4/63), graded by CGC at 4.0 with Cream to Off White pages sold for $289.99 on eBay on March 3rd. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 4.0 is $304.00. This comic sold for over 95% of guide. Iron Man is hot right now and I think this book bit the market right on. Neutral on the buy and sell.

Fantastic Four #1, Marvel Comics, (9/71), graded by CGC at 4.0 with Off White pages failed to sell on eBay on March 1st. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 4.0 is $3,400.00. The price was listed at $3,750 (only a 10% premium on the most important comic book of the Silver Age) with no takers. The seller’s approach was wrong in my mind. They should have started low and have the book bid up.

Well? What do you think? I think there are deals to be had out there folks.
