This has nothing to do with anything… but one of my favourite YouTube channels is is the Neadwriter, who recently posted this analysis of Spiegelman’s Maus.

I recently had an argument with a friend about the subtext of books like Watchmen. I feel, as I do about classical art, that the post analysis often over glorifies works of art, lifting it up beyond its intent. My friend suggests that it’s all deliberate. Coming from an ad background, I know that such things can be true in advertising because there is a mandate and a group of people who strategize ad nauseam. But do individuals creators or a pair of creators take on such in depth tasks. Everyone is different and walks their own path… but I argue, in a limited capacity yes, but in most cases no, especially if there is a deadline looming.
In basket ball, players often talk about being in the “zone” and I believe that creatives also experience this. They plan out their works as best they can, but the rest is experience and a subconscious understanding of what works best. In hindsight, it all seems orchestrated but to me… this is the definition of professionalism.
I just wanted to share the link… ^_^
