Is that really the title for the Elvgren piece? Because I appreciate the chutzpah.
Yes it is! The title definitely adds naughtiness to this “good girl” painting.
I almost went in halves on an Elvgren about 6 years ago when the renowned collector Charles G. Martignette was selling some of his vast collection. A price of $20K to $30K was the starting point for some nice pieces while pieces like the one Scott features here were almost double that. Too rich for our blood!
Mr. Martignette passed away a few years ago and Heritage Auctions has been selling most of his art collection. Elvgren pieces like this one were fetching close to $200,000.
