Covered 365: Day 37

A great comic book cover matching each day of the year, 1 through 365. Please chime in with your favourite corresponding cover, from any era.

Day 37 – Captain America Comics #37, April 1944, Artist – Alex Schomburg.

Man did Schomburg ever produce some epic covers, Captain America #37 is one of his best.

  1. As this exercise shows, choosing one “best cover of all time” would be too difficult. That said, Captain America Comics #37 would necessarily be on the short list. I said that the pick for #31 was a given, but in my mind there is no comparison with #37. This cover is perhaps Schomburg’s purest channeling of early Baroque. If you have the CGC 9.4, please send it to me, thanks in advance.

    My #40 picks:

    Green Lantern
    Jumbo
    Marvel Mystery
    Plastic Man
    Strange Tales

Spidey Super Stories #40 is actually really good and I would put it neck-and-neck with a couple of the above.

  2. Agree 100% with Chris’ comments. This one is undeniable. Also great call-out to Spidey #40 – classic “comic booky” scene and well executed!
