Covered 365: Day 325

Iron Man #325, Marvel Comics, February 1996. Artist: Jim Calafiore.

A great comic book cover matching each day of the year, 1 through 365. Please chime in with your favourite corresponding cover, from any era.

Jim Calafiore’s cover for Iron Man #325 was a big surprise. I’m embarrassed to say I don’t remember ever holding this issue in my hands and spreading it out to enjoy the full cover. Gah!

I wanted to love Scott McDaniel’s attempt at the cover of Daredevil #325 but I ended up just liking it, something piece of information is not being conveyed, something is missing here.

How do you go from a fantastic cover on Captain America #324 to this god awful thing on Captain America #325, Mr. Zeck you have some splaining to do.

I couldn’t help myself, I had to throw this Four Color #325 on here, it has a Leprechaun on it and we all know Leprechaun’s bring good luck.

  1. Prior to today’s column, I had never seen this cover of Iron Man #325, but it is certainly worthy of the cover of the day honor – outstanding.

It also completely dominated among a weak and small field of covers. The only others that caught my eye were Superman #325 and Amazing Spider-Man #325.

ASM #325 is not one of my favorite McFarlane covers – just a bit too busy and stylized for a Spider-Man cover. But seeing it also sadly reminds me that the end of the McFarlane run on ASM is near (one great cover left!) before one of the greatest title series in comics slouches toward – I can barely say it – the Erik Larsen era.

  2. I also have never seen that Ironman cover!! Is Electra’s weapon supposed to be sticking IN DD? The only defence for Zeck is look what the writer gave him to work with… the Slug (makes Firebug look like an inspiration)! My moneys on Mickey…only because Ironman looks like a movie poster for another film!

  3. I picked ’em this time. And even though too much club soda means I already know tomorrow’s pick, that’s not stopping me. The pick for #326 is Adventure! This is almost a JOWA, but how can you pass up this reminder of all the DC brunettes that we saw earlier in the year? Far better than some ugly bugs. A runner up that does take the JOWA is Sgt. Rock – just a fantastic cover by Kubert, but such a bizarre concept, like a Moldoffing of Sgt. Rock. ASM #326 is better and I consider it a third place finisher.

Superman coming out yet again on the cover of #326. And yet somehow this is a big deal now.

  4. Come to think of it Chris, I was sipping on a little club soda when I scheduled tomorrow’s post, excellent power of perception, or perhaps an easy. read? I took the post down, filled in my comments and rescheduled it for tomorrow – and no Adventure #326 did not make the list.

  5. A little disappointed that Byrne’s Superhero Cocktail party Avenger’s cover didn’t make it, but that Iron Man is a nice one.
For 326 I feel Daredevil by McDaniel stands out the most. A very stylized take on the forbidden fruit, but the base of the tree is a computer mesh, so it’s interesting enough to make me wonder what’s going on inside.
Runner ups are Captain America by Zeck, Four Color Andy Panda is cool. And that’s it really in my opinion.
JOWA goes to Detective with it’s PEEPS aliens.
    WWWP?
