Covered 365: Day 318

House of Mystery #318, DC Comics, July 1973. Artist: Mike Kaluta.

It was tough to pick a winner for Day 318, there were some good covers but not one was great. I went with Mike Kaluta’s cover to House of Mystery #318 because of the ambiance given off by the cover’s aesthetics. There is a mood to this cover I can’t quite explain but I’m drawn to it.

Gil Kane gives us an easy to like cover on Thor #318, I see it as an homage to the great Kirby monster covers of yesterday.

Carl Buettner was me snuggled into my flannel pajamas and my toasty Toronto Maple Leaf slippers with his warm rendering on Four Color #318.

Paul Ryan gives Nebula fans their moment in the sun with his strong cover to Avengers #318.

A great comic book cover matching each day of the year, 1 through 365. Please chime in with your favourite corresponding cover, from any era.

  1. I like the HoM! Reminds me of work done by illustrators from the 20’s and 30’s with a slightly contemporary flair and as good as his work on the Shadow. The Thor is great do to its clean simplicity and the Four Color is outstanding! I can see where two of Meli’s picks could have competed with the Avengers, but Batman villain Firebug is almost as lame as that character Hydroman we had few days ago…and Xmen was too much a standing around cover.

  2. Liked all of today’s selections, but have to second Chris’s assessment from yesterday as I thought Batman #318 and X-Men #318 were better.

The Thor #318 cover had tremendous potential, but feels unfinished.

    Also liked Iron Man #318.
