Amazing Spider-Man #295, Marvel Comics, December 1987. Artist: Bill Sienkiewicz.
I think day #295 might have been the worst day yet! I mean I did not have one clear front runner.
I went with a comic art innovator Bill Sienkiewicz’s cover to Amazing Spider-Man #295 just because I respect Bill’s work.
Joe Kubert’s Our Army At War #295 is a nice patriotic Bi-centennial cover, and I love the ’76 font – so 70s.
Bob Budiansky’s cover to Captain America #295 is nothing special but I’m sure the move would be, The Sister’s of Sin is something I think I’d pay to see.
A great comic book cover matching each day of the year, 1 through 365. Please chime in with your favourite corresponding cover, from any era.
I see Sienkiewicz’s style as stirring the status quo… which is a good thing! However I wonder how the core Spidey fans actually liked this cover. I will assume a younger generation loved it while those that grew up with the 60’s and 70’s image of our hero may not have been as enamored… I frankly don’t know. It is the most interesting of todays picks and Sienkiewicz’s work is definitely artistic in its approach.
While I did like the ASM cover, I preffered Bill’s Hulk cover much more. The Rock cover, while drawn okay enough, just isn’t material that elicits any kind of emotion besides ‘meh’ because I have zero interest in ‘war’ comics. Cap is a cover I like, but it’s just not good enough.
Day 296, I see Hulk as my favorite, again by Bill Sienkiewicz with a Rom cameo. Runner ups are ASM by Byrne, Daredevil by Lee Weeks, FF by Barry Windsor Smith, yes it’s a simple cover but I’ve always like it. Avengers by Palmer is better this time around, and actually looks interesting
enough to read the story.
JOWA goes to Action….no Adventure…..no Superman……ahhh let’s just say Superman in general.
WWWP?
ASM might be an interesting conceptual piece, but I am not interested as a comic book cover. I agree with C.K.’s comment on the OOAW up to the point about “zero interest” – I love war books but this one would not be a pick. (Nice poster though.) I agree that the movie of The Sisters of Sin’s moves could be a winner.
My bet is that you will go with Batman for #296 as it is near the top. However I don’t like the depiction of Batman, so I’m going with Daredevil. This is a pretty basic cover but it is operating on all cylinders – great composition, great figure art, a clear story, action. Speaking of how I like war books, my other runner-up is the perfectly drab OOAW.
Superman: isn’t this the cover of next month’s book?
Detective on the mend with Dillin taking over.
Action and ASM are similar JOWA candidates, but Action is the clear winner.
While I agree on tomorrows JOWA Chris… I still like the rendering of Supes as King Ant as opposed to the ding-a-ling with the rings on Detective!
