Foiur Color #273, Eastern Color, April 1950, Artist: Dan Gormley.
So much small details in these Golden Age covers, case in point this nice cover from Dan Gormley for the cover of Four Color #273.
Maybe because its Mike Kaluta, maybe because it’s creepy as heck but I can’t help digging the cover to House of Mystery #273.
So Colin gets a few emails back in the day from a young Chris Meli, “learn how to draw Conan’s face, would ya!”. Colin responds with the cover to Conan #273.
For me the Jowa has to go to Superman #273, not many covers make me want to punch every single person on the cover in the face! Superman for being some wuss, our new hero for that nauseating smug look on his face, and everyone in the crown for being idiots, Jeez.
A great comic book cover matching each day of the year, 1 through 365. Please chime in with your favourite corresponding cover, from any era.
Yeah that HoM is actually really good. I think the whole thing was so unpleasant that I didn’t mention it, but that’s why I didn’t mention it.
I don’t know if a JOWA goes to something that elicits such strong feelings – maybe that’s the mark of a great cover. However I can’t pick it – I don’t remember getting this book but I probably did, and I probably hated it at the time so I’ll continue to hate it now.
Nothing great for tomorrow. I won’t be surprised if you pick Conan because that’s your kind of cover with a bunch of patterns and colors. While not great I like Mickey Mouse best. Fantastic Four is also a good poster kind of cover, but far more visually confusing than Mickey.
JOWA to Adventure – who bought these comics?
I am losing it – second sentence should read “but that why I _should have_ mentioned it.”
When I was younger I probably wouldn’t have been as enamored with the Four Color either Chris… but now I find it rather refreshing… I think there are other covers up there… but I am not going to bother scrolling up to see. Don’t kick yourself too much Chris… we are all adult comic book geeks after all…the rest if the world sees us ALL as having lost it… but I am ok with that!
