Covered 365: Day 27

A great comic book cover matching each day of the year, 1 through 365. Please chime in with your favourite corresponding cover, from any era.

Day 27 – New Adventure Comics #27, Artist – Creig Flessel.

This is a post about covers not key issues so I’m with Meli re Tec #27. This is a standout cover and it appeared alongside Action Comics #1 on the news stands of June 1938. Flessel evokes the adventure and the daring that kids were craving, until of course something new and revolutionary came along.

  1. I gave this one some thought but it didn’t make it into my short list. It gets close to the “not comic booky enough” line, but the over the top adventure/fight aspect keeps it in the camp from my perspective. I think the one thing that killed it for me was the yellow shark. I showed this cover to my son, and he said that at first he thought it was Spider-Man fighting a banana. For me the classic comic cover fish fight is Whiz #19. (There is the Fine cover as well, I forget which one that is, I guess it is the gold standard for fish fights.)

I am still trying to keep up but I have yet to make it to operating much in advance. My #30s:

    Astonishing
    Fight
    Mystery Men
    Startling
    Vault of Horror
