Covered 365: Day 25

A great comic book cover matching each day of the year, 1 through 365. Please chime in with your favourite corresponding cover, from any era.

Day 25 – Witches Tales, Artist – Howard Nostrand.

Witches Tales #25 is part of the old guard of classic pre code horror covers, it’s been a big deal for a long time. I’ve been lucky enough to own a few of these but it has to be at least 15 years since the last one.

  1. Walt, love your choice here. This would have been my choice as well. What a scarce book this one seems to be. Great pick. I DO like Fantastic Four as well for this number. Classic Thing vs. Hulk cover.

  2. Glad to see that I finally picked a winner. I considered FF #25 but I see a couple of problems which are shared by many Kirby covers and have been preventing me from picking these:

    – The characters are too small. Kirby works as if his cover art is going to be enlarged, not reduced.

    – There is too much else going on, lots of folks somewhat transfixed with shocked expressions, rubble falling, etc.

Compare to FF #112 and tell me that you don’t agree.

I haven’t gotten ahead of the game much today but I will move to future days as I have time to review. My #26s:

    Marvel Mystery
    My Secret Love
    Phantom Stranger
    Rangers
    Sensation

  3. FF #25 is a good book but the cover is while good is not stellar. I was considering Astonishing Tales #25…

Issue #26s were plentiful and I went with one of my favorite comic covers ever.

  4. Trying to get ahead of the game while I watch an uninspiring auction.

Hard to even come up with five #27s that I would really recommend. My choices:

    Captain America Comics
Detective [maybe not really a great cover, but I have to include it]
    Daredevil Comics
    Whiz
    Witching Hour

  5. A great choice and a well known PCH cover. Some good choices for #26 would be Captain Aero Comics, Ranger Comics, Planet Comics, Pep Comics, Hit Comics, and Captain Marvel Adventures.
